Hattaway Communications, a Washington, D.C.-based strategic communications firm with a mission: helping visionary leaders and organizations achieve ambitious goals that benefit people and the planet. Every day, our team works with high-profile, high-impact clients in advocacy, philanthropy, politics, government and business to create research-driven strategies, content and campaigns. We’re in the business of communications for impact, not self-promotion.
Visual communication is at the heart of our work, and we integrate our Graphic Designers into every aspect of our projects. As a Graphic Designer, you’ll be a part of our in-house design team, supporting our internal project teams and helping our clients achieve great things. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and elevating the Hattaway brand through top-notch publications and presentations, as well as producing visual identities, collateral, websites and more for our clients. You’ll also visualize strategic concepts and narratives, and help brainstorm visual solutions to communications and research challenges.
You have experience with the standard software of the trade—Creative Suite, Keynote, Office—but aren’t afraid to learn new tools, especially if doing so results in a better product or a more efficient process. Experience with data visualization, design strategy and web design is desired.
We need ambitious people to take on ambitious work, and stretching to learn new skills and tackle new challenges is the norm for our team.
To be successful, you’re the type of designer who is able to juggle multiple projects and deliver on time, every time, while maintaining a service-oriented attitude. You’ll also have one to three years of experience working in the design/creative fields. Familiarity with the nonprofit and philanthropic communities would also be helpful.
Top-notch tools: Your tools should never be barriers to doing great work, so you’ll be set up with a speedy Mac laptop and external display.
A collaborative, learning environment: We all really like working together. We collaborate and help each other, and we all learn constantly—about the art and science behind the work we do, the research methods we employ, and the evolving technologies we use to engage our clients and their audiences.
Convenient offices: Our workplace is located conveniently between the Dupont Circle and Farragut North metro stops. There’s a Capital Bikeshare station right outside of our office and, if you’re a two-wheeled commuter, we’ll cover your annual membership fee. We’re well-stocked with espresso and healthy snacks to make sure you’re comfortable throughout the day.
Professional development: Our team is committed to your success and growth. You’ll receive a generous professional development budget to take classes, attend conferences, join associations, buy books or whatever else you and your mentor think would help further your career.
To apply, send a PDF of your best work or a link to your portfolio, along with your resume, to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include “Graphic Designer” in the subject line. No attachments over 10MB (it’s not a good way to start a relationship) or phone calls, please.
We know that bringing talented, diverse people together creates more impact than we can create as individuals. We seek out candidates with diverse experiences, points of view, backgrounds and cultures—with the goal of creating an inclusive work environment that promotes creativity, innovation and collaboration.Return to full list of positions
